Does the M25 Know?!

“She can be a cruel mistress, the M25, but today I’ve been lucky,” Nessa from Gavin and Stacey once said. And a cruel mistress she can be.

I say this not as a driver – my driving is pretty much non-existent – but as a new mummy waiting impatiently patiently at home for Mr Lighty to get home from work.

I was surprised but also relieved to recently hear other new mums at our baby group say that they dread the phone calls announcing that their other halves are stuck at the office; whilst it’s a very rare day that Mr Lighty has to stay late after work, I do dread the phone call that I get from him every so often to say that there’s trouble afoot on the M25. It’s bloody hard work this mothering business, and it does make me wonder whether the M25 knows…

…when the trains on our line are up the creek, so that at the time a very heavily pregnant, very starving Mrs Lighty would have to wait what seemed like a lifetime for dinner because both of us were in late from work?

…when I’m going for my first new mummy haircut since having Baby Lighty and was really looking forward to looking halfway groomed again, but possibly can’t make the appointment as I’d have no one to look after the baby with Mr Lighty stuck on the motorway?

…when I’m so tired that I’d just love to rest my eyes – just for a minute – but can’t without someone else present to watch Baby Lighty?

…when we’re attending a baby first aid course, and need to have dinner early to get to the course on time?

…when it’s WI night? Why is the M25 always up the creek on WI night?!

…when I’ve had ‘one of those days’ where my only company all day has been Baby Lighty’s incessant grizzling, and I’m desperate for Mr Lighty to get home to share the burden?

…or conversely, when Baby Lighty does something super cute, or reaches a new milestone and I can’t wait to share the news with Mr Lighty, but he’s still stuck on that motorway?!

Ah a cruel mistress she can be! It’s a  good job that I don’t actually have to drive it…

    1. Mind you, the tube can be just as much of a nightmare, I’ve been on the Jubilee Line up until now! Between Mr Lighty and I, we’re a right commuting pair! The only thing I like about the tube is that you can get some blogging done, ha!! Thanks for taking the time to read my post 🙂 #bigpinklink

  1. I hate days like this and completely agree with you. It’s such a pain in the bum when hubbie let’s me know at 530 he’s going to be late at work or going out for a drink, surely he knew that before 530. It’s hard being stuck at home all day, and when you look forward to adult conversation, it’s devastating when that doesn’t happen. Claire X #MarvMondays

    1. Thank you, I’m glad it’s not just me that feels this! I’m lucky that, touch wood, it doesn’t happen too often, but I always get that sinking feeling when it does! Thanks for taking the time to read my post 🙂 #MarvMondays

  3. Man, I hate that M25 and luckily we don’t live near it. When we do go out on a day trip to London though, you can be sure we’re going to get stuck somewhere.. >_< Thanks for linking up to #MarvMondays! Kaye xo

    1. Well we were stuck on it again today and were *almost* late to pick Baby Lighty up from his settling in session with the childminder! It gets us every which way!! Thanks for reading and hosting #marvmondays 🙂
